I went back to work.
My leg was feeling better; I was only taking the anti-inflammatory (Naprosyn, I think); and I felt ready to start back. My boss had tried to make my classroom as kind to a cripple as possible. I'd obtained a wheelchair from the chuch to help me keep my foot up. I spent most of my time sitting at my desk with my leg resting on top of it.
I lasted three days.
By Thursday morning, I was weaker and feeling miserable. I went back home and put the leg back up. I had a low grade fever for a couple days, a few little night sweats, and by the weekend, I was feeling better again. Strangely, my leg had started smelling a bit, even though it had only been in a cast a week and a half. I thought to myself - "Great! What's it going to smell like after 10 weeks?!"
