Rupturing my Achilles, part 5

Tuesday, November 4th

I went back to the doctor's so he could take a look at my wound, to make sure it was healing properly. The cast had already begun smelling again, which bothered me. I had intentionally not been doing much, knowing that having a cast on as long as I was going to would leave a lot of time for smell to accumulate. How could it be smelling after only a few days!?

The doctor cut a window in my orange cast, and as he pried the piece out, it became evident where the smell was coming from. Levaquin had obviously not been the right antibiotic.
Here's the wound:

After we heard the surgeon in the next room calling someone else for advice, we had a feeling that something was abnormal - Heck! just looking at it ought to have told us that. I think my wife knew, but I couldn't really get a good look at it lying on my stomach. At least he cultured it this time, and I was put on Clindamycin until my culture came back.
