Rupturing my Achilles, part 6

Thursday, November 6th

After finding my wound so grossly infected, the surgeon quickly (worriedly) began cutting off and cleaning as much of the infection as he could easily get to. Shortly afterward, we heard him in the next room , calling the "wound specialists."

It's always nice to hear your doctor on the phone, worried about you. He cultured the wound and sent it off, and told me to call the wound center to make an appointment soon.

So after several phone calls later that day, I got an appointment. At first, it wasn't going to be for most of a week, but then I got a call back to come at 8 AM on Thursday. I met with a nurse first, who opened the window and poked and prodded a bit. Then the specialist came in and did some more of the same. I'd been put on Clindamycin Tuesday afternoon, as it is often used on traumatic wound infections.
The "wound" doctor told me that the infection wasn't beyond healing, and he kept me on Clindamycin until the culture came back to show sensitivities. The nurse came back in to re-dress the wound, and she showed my wife (again, praise God for her) how to change the dressing daily.

Sarah had to go out and purchase more things, including the $90 tube of iodosorb, in order to take care of my wound.
